Work.
Build.
Walk forward.

My journey did not begin with HAVIKWAY. It began in Romania, continued in England, and was shaped by years of work, business, technology, migration and starting again.

From construction and running my own cleaning business to web design, mobile phone repair and server administration, every chapter taught me something practical about work, people, responsibility and solving problems.

My story

My route started long before the expedition.

HAVIKWAY is not a sudden change of direction. It is the next chapter of a life already shaped by migration, physical work, entrepreneurship, technology and the experience of starting again.

2019 England → Amsterdam
NOW Preparing HAVIKWAY

Learn how things work, solve problems, take responsibility and keep moving forward.

My name is Paul-Cristian Tocitu. HAVIKWAY is the next chapter of a journey that has already taken me through different countries, professions and stages of life.

I was born in Romania and in 2002 I left for England. Moving to another country meant starting again: adapting to a different environment, learning how to work, building relationships and becoming responsible for the direction of my own life.

My first major professional chapter in England was in construction. I worked in construction for approximately five years, learning the value of physical work, discipline, reliability and completing a job properly.

After those years I decided to take another step and start something of my own. I opened my own cleaning business in England, which gave me a completely different perspective on work. Instead of only doing the work, I also had to think about customers, organisation, responsibility, pricing, communication and running a business.

Later, my interests and professional direction moved increasingly toward technology. I began working with web design and learned how websites could help businesses present themselves, communicate with customers and become visible online.

From web design I moved further into technical work, including mobile phone repair. Repairing phones taught me to diagnose problems, work carefully, understand technology at a practical level and find solutions rather than simply replace things.

Over time I also developed experience with servers and server administration. This added another dimension to my technical work: websites and applications are not only about what people see, but also about the systems, hosting, security and infrastructure behind them.

In 2019 I moved from England to the Netherlands and continued my journey from Amsterdam. By then, my professional experience had developed across several very different areas, from physical work and entrepreneurship to technology and digital systems.

Looking back, these chapters may appear unrelated. Construction, cleaning, web design, phone repair and server administration are very different professions. But they all taught me the same fundamental lesson: learn how things work, solve problems, take responsibility and keep moving forward.

That mindset is one of the foundations of HAVIKWAY. A long journey across continents will require exactly the same ability to adapt, learn, solve problems and continue when circumstances change.

My timeline

The chapters that came before HAVIKWAY.

My professional life developed through several very different stages. Each one added another skill, another perspective and another reason to keep learning.

BEFORE 2002
Romania

Where the journey began.

Romania is where my story began. Leaving home eventually became the first major step toward the life and experiences that would later shape the HAVIKWAY project.

2002
England

Starting again.

I moved to England in 2002. During my first years there, I worked in construction for approximately five years. It was a period that taught me discipline, physical resilience, responsibility and the importance of completing work properly.

AFTER CONSTRUCTION
England

Building my own business.

After working in construction, I opened my own cleaning business. Running a business taught me to think beyond the work itself: customers, organisation, communication, responsibility, costs and reputation.

NEXT CHAPTER
Technology

Discovering web design.

My professional direction gradually moved toward computers and the internet. Web design became a new skill and another way of helping businesses become visible and communicate online.

NEXT CHAPTER
Mobile technology

Repairing phones.

I later moved deeper into technical work through mobile phone repair. Diagnosing faults and repairing devices taught me patience, precision and practical problem-solving.

2019
Amsterdam

A new country, another chapter.

After seventeen years in England, I moved to the Netherlands in 2019. Amsterdam became my new base and the place from which I continued developing technical projects and new ideas.

NOW
HAVIKWAY

Turning experience into purpose.

HAVIKWAY brings together many parts of the journey so far: migration, work, technology, independence, curiosity and the desire to experience the world differently.

The road behind the road

HAVIKWAY is not the first time I have had to begin again.

Before planning a multi-year walking expedition, I had already experienced what it means to leave one country, adapt to another, build a business, learn new professions and start again.

YEARS IN ENGLAND 0

Seventeen years of living, working and building experience before moving to the Netherlands.

YEARS IN CONSTRUCTION 0

Approximately five years of construction work in England during the first professional chapter.

TECHNICAL AREAS 0

Web design, mobile phone repair and server administration became important parts of my technical experience.

NEW BASE AMSTERDAM

The city where the next phase of work, technology and HAVIKWAY preparation developed.

Professional experience

My working life changed direction several times.

01
Construction

Physical work. Discipline. Responsibility.

My first major professional experience in England was in construction. Approximately five years of physical work taught me discipline, reliability, patience and the importance of doing a job properly.

02
Entrepreneurship

Running my own cleaning business.

After construction I opened my own cleaning business. This changed the way I understood work. I had to deal with customers, organisation, scheduling, responsibility, pricing, reputation and the everyday decisions involved in running a business.

03
Web design

Turning ideas into digital tools.

Web design became another important stage of my professional development. I learned how websites can help businesses communicate with customers, present their services and become easier to find online.

04
Mobile phone repair

Diagnose. Repair. Restore.

Mobile phone repair developed my practical technical skills. Diagnosing faults, identifying components and repairing devices taught me to approach problems systematically and work with precision.

05
Server administration

Keep systems running.

Working with servers added another level to my technical experience. Websites and applications need more than a visible interface. They also require hosting, infrastructure, maintenance, security and reliability.

What the work taught me

Every profession added another way of thinking.

The connection between construction, cleaning, technology, repairing a phone and maintaining a server may not be obvious. For me, they are all forms of problem solving.

01

Work teaches discipline.

Physical work taught me that reliability is not optional. If something needs to be completed, you have to show up and finish it.

02

Business teaches responsibility.

Running my own cleaning business showed me that customers, reputation and organisation are just as important as the work itself.

03

Technology teaches problem solving.

Web design, phone repair and server administration all require understanding the problem before deciding on the solution.

04

Starting again teaches adaptability.

Moving from Romania to England and later from England to the Netherlands taught me that life rarely follows one perfectly predictable plan.

NEXT STEP
Why HAVIKWAY

I want the next chapter to be about more than kilometres.

Walking is the method. Human connection, learning and sharing practical knowledge are part of the larger purpose.

My professional life has taught me several different ways of solving problems. Construction taught me practical work. Running a business taught me responsibility. Web design taught me digital communication. Phone repair taught me technical diagnosis. Server administration taught me about systems and reliability.

HAVIKWAY gives these experiences a completely different context. Instead of staying in one place, I want to take the journey across countries and meet people whose lives, businesses and experiences are different from mine.

When it is realistic and useful, I want to contribute with what I know: repairing devices, improving digital presence, helping with simple websites, explaining online tools and discussing practical options for small businesses.

I do not expect to arrive with all the answers. The goal is to listen first, understand what is actually needed and then see whether my experience can be useful.

Skills on the road

Practical help can start small.

The aim is not to impose outside solutions, but to offer useful skills when they match a real local need.

01

Repair

Share practical knowledge around mobile devices and basic technical diagnosis where appropriate.

02

Digital presence

Explain how a simple website, business profile or online contact point can help a local activity become easier to find.

03

Small-business ideas

Discuss practical topics such as presentation, customer communication, basic online visibility and digital tools.

04

Knowledge transfer

Whenever possible, leave behind knowledge that can continue being used after I have walked on to the next place.

Small businesses

Sometimes growth begins with one practical improvement.

A small business does not always need a complicated strategy. Sometimes it needs visibility, structure and a clearer next step.

A repair shop may need a simple page where customers can find it. A local maker may need better photographs and a way to receive enquiries. A family business may need help understanding how to present services, prices or opening hours online.

These are relatively small digital changes, but in the right context they can improve trust, customer access and the possibility of growth.

HAVIKWAY gives me a reason to reach places where these skills may be useful and to learn in return from the people who live there.

What I can realistically offer

Small, practical contributions are more useful than large promises.

I do not want HAVIKWAY to create the impression that I will arrive everywhere with a solution.

Some situations may need skills I do not have. Some people may not need help at all. In other places, a simple conversation, repair, website adjustment or explanation of an online tool may be genuinely useful.

The goal is to contribute where there is a clear match between what somebody needs and what I actually know how to do.

CAN OFFER Practical technical knowledge

Web design, mobile phone repair, server administration and practical digital problem solving.

CAN OFFER Business experience

Having run my own cleaning business, I understand that a small business is also about customers, organisation, reputation and responsibility.

CAN OFFER Time to explain

Help becomes more durable when the person understands how to continue independently.

WILL NOT ASSUME That outside ideas are automatically better

Local knowledge and context matter. The first responsibility is to understand them.

How I want to approach it

Listen first. Help second.

Useful support begins by understanding the person, the local reality and the resources already available.

01

Understand

Ask what the real problem is before assuming that technology is automatically the answer.

02

Keep it simple

Prefer solutions that can continue working without expensive subscriptions or constant outside help.

03

Teach

Explain the process so the person can maintain or develop the solution independently later.

04

Move forward

Leave behind something practical: knowledge, structure, visibility or a clearer option for growth.

SHARE SKILLS
A journey with purpose

I do not want HAVIKWAY to be only about where I have been.

I want it to also show what can happen when experience is shared.

The skills I developed over many years were built through work, mistakes, adaptation and repeated problem solving. Construction, entrepreneurship, web design, phone repair and server administration each contributed something different.

If part of that knowledge can help someone else make their activity stronger, more visible or more sustainable, then the journey gains another dimension.

Some encounters may last only a few hours. Others may become longer collaborations. The important part is that the help remains practical, respectful and connected to what people actually want to build.

What this journey means to me

Freedom is not simply moving without a destination.

For me, freedom also means having the ability to use what I know in a meaningful way.

HAVIKWAY brings together several parts of my life: migration, physical work, entrepreneurship, technology, independence, curiosity and the desire to understand the world beyond short visits.

The road gives me a structure for continuing to learn. The people I meet will know things I do not know, live realities I have never experienced and see opportunities differently from me.

That exchange is as important to the project as the route shown on the map.

The human archive

The most important parts of a long journey may not be the kilometres.

HAVIKWAY can become a record of encounters, lessons and practical projects, provided those stories are shared responsibly and with permission.

PEOPLE Encounters with context

Not every person needs to become content. When stories are shared, the aim is to preserve dignity and the wider context behind the meeting.

PROJECTS What was actually done

If a repair, website or practical idea becomes part of the journey, the archive can show the process rather than exaggerate the result.

LESSONS What changed my own thinking

A meaningful journey should also record what I learned from other people, not only what I was able to offer.

A public journey

I want the road, the work and the people to remain visible.

HAVIKWAY is intended to be documented while it happens.

The journal can record not only landscapes and distance, but also the people, small businesses, ideas and practical projects that become part of the journey.

Over time, I want the website to become a record of what was learned, what changed and what was built along the road.

From Romania to England. From England to Amsterdam. And now beyond.

Walk far.
Leave something useful behind.

I am Paul-Cristian Tocitu. HAVIKWAY is my next chapter: a journey through the world built on experience, curiosity, practical skills, human connection and the willingness to keep learning.
